I cannot stress this enough. Communication can only help. Too often we feel that we shouldn’t ask or raise issues that our loved ones might not want to talk about. It’s a false sense of respecting privacy. The reality is that if we don’t ask the tough questions, we don’t have the answer and thus often times cannot help a family member achieve their desired end of life path. It’s a difficult obstacle to overcome – this awkwardness about approaching very personal and intimate details of another’s end of life wishes. BUT WE MUST MUST push on and conquer our own hesitancy and fear in order to put our loved ones at ease.
